Course Description: This course is ideal for dental hygienists exploring the role of the myofunctional therapist. Myofunctional therapists are uniquely positioned to treat the muscular dysfunctions that often accompany temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD). TMD can result from a variety of issues, from musculature imbalance to malocclusion and other traumatic events. In addition to these commonly recognized factors, postural imbalances can also affect the temporomandibular joint. This course explores the causes of TMD, treatment options, including traditional and newer techniques, and the importance of a team approach to care. Course Description: Eating disorders affect millions of people each year. Many go undiagnosed and untreated due to the shame and the secret nature of eating disorders. One misconception is that these disorders are a choice, and the patient can return to normal eating simply by will or force. Eating disorders are serious mental wellness issues requiring a multidisciplinary approach to treatment. This course will define and list different types of eating disorders and describe the physical, psychological, and oral manifestations. The dental professional is perfectly positioned to recognize and respond to patients who suffer from eating disorders. Learn oral health applications and how to approach the patient with a trauma-informed mindset.
